Project Description

The Melbourne International Film Festival has become Australia’s leading film festival to shape many minds through creative, exceptional, and diverse filmmaking. Every year they continue to be a cultural event that builds a sense of community and connectedness. To beautifully represent the artistic freedom of filmmakers, MIFF has undertaken a new art direction to reflect the theme of Self Discovery to evoke the search for identity, passion, and purpose.

Project Solution

A 90s colour palette was applied to the promotional material to develop an appealing and eye-catching design. Film media such as VHS tapes were implemented in the design to take advantage of the 90s nostalgia. Using the power of nostalgia to communicate and appeal to audiences in their early and late 20s. To promote the image of MIFF as trendy, youthful, and informal while keeping the festival's creative spirit for filmmaking a priority.

Storytelling plays a big part in MIFF therefore visual storytelling and motifs such as the telescope was implemented to explore the theme of Self-Discovery. To propose the idea that everyone can discover and define themselves at many moments in time, a moment that changes who you are and what you will be. Sit back and be inspired by the moving images you see in front of you.
